Short Info

The dew found early morning is also due to condensation.

Condensation

Condensation occurs when air has more water vapor than it can hold. Excess water vapor (a gas) condenses into water droplets. Air may be cooled until it reaches a temperature, known as the dew point, below which it is unable to hold all of its moisture in the form of vapor. When the temperature of a solid object falls below the dew point of the surrounding air, water vapor will begin to condense on it. This is why the outside of a glass containing an iced drink is soon covered by a film of water if it is in a warm room.

Condensation always needs encouragement in the form of something solid. Condensation in the atmosphere takes place on solid particles that are always in the air, such as salt crystals, smoke dust, and pollen. Such particles are called condensation nuclei. Condensation in the atmosphere produces cloud (and ultimately rain), or, at low levels, fog. Condensation also causes the dew that is found on objects close to the Earth's surface in the early morning.

Rain can sometimes be made to fall by spraying clouds with crystals of silver iodide. These help ice crystals to form, and make up for a lack of condensation nuclei in the air.
