Ralph Waldo Emerson

RalphEmerson, Ralph Waldo (1803-82), was a leading American poet and essayist. In his writings he stated that people should follow their own souls in religion, rather than any established church or belief. Emerson's works include Essays (1841), Representative Men (1850), English Traits (1856) and The Conduct of Life (1860). His poems include Nature, Uriel, Days and Brahma. Born in Boston and educated at Harvard University, Emerson spent much of his life at Concord, Massachusetts.
