Falkland Islands
This bleak windswept island group lies in the South Atlantic Ocean about 300 miles east of the Magellan Strait. Cattle graze in many parts and whales and seals live in the coastal waters. More than 5,000 people live in the Falklands. There are two large islands (East Falkland and West Falkland) and about 200 smaller ones. Together with other territories and islands farther south, they make up a British colony. The Falklands are also claimed by Argentina.
