Guevara Ernesto Che
Guevara, Ernesto Che (1928-1967), was a Latin American revolutionary. He took part in the Cuban revolution with Fidel Castro.
Guevara was born in Argentina, where he studied as a medical student. He took time off and traveled through Latin America. Because of the poverty and hardship he saw on these trips, he decided to work for the good of Latin American Indians. He qualified as a doctor in 1953. In 1955 he met Fidel Castro in Mexico. A year later, Castro, Guevara and 80 others sailed to Cuba. There, He fought with guerilla bands in the south until Castro's victory. Afterwards, he became head of the National Bank and Minister of Industry.
In 1965, Guevara left Cuba to try to start a revolution in Bolivia. However, his revolutionary ideas were not accepted by the Bolivian peasants and Indians. Soon he had only a very small band of followers. In a forest battle in 1967, he was wounded, captured and later shot.
