Hale Nathan
Hale, Nathan (1755-76), was a noted American patriot of the Revolutionary War. Born in Coventry, Connecticut, he graduated from Yale (1773) and was a teacher until the war began (1775), when he became a captain in the Connecticut militia. He volunteered to go to Long Island to get information about British forces there. The British discovered him and hanged him. His last words are said to have been "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country".
