Herbs
Herbs mean one thing to a botanist, another to a housewife, cook, or gardener, and something else again to a pharmacologist or druggist. To botanists, a herb is a plant that has a soft, non-woody stem. To cooks, herbs are plants that have highly scented leaves which are used to add flavor to foods. Herbs widely used in the kitchen include mint, parsley, sage and thyme. Culinary herbs are at their best when full-grown but not yet in flower. It is always best to pick them early in the morning before they lose their fragrance in the hot sun.
Medicinal herbs are those that contain drugs useful in combating diseases in man. Pharmacologists usually supply druggists with synthetic drugs today, but some people still prefer to use medicinal herbs.
