Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast is a republic in western Africa. It lies on the Gulf of Guinea and covers an area of 124,503 square miles and its capital is Abidjan. Most of the country's people are Negroes who practice tribal religions. Among the population about one quarter are Muslims and about one eighth Christians. Farming is the most important occupation, and coffee, cocoa beans and timber are the chief exports. Formerly a French territory, the Ivory Coast became independent in I960.
