Dead Sea
Dead Sea Lying between Jordan and Israel, the Dead Sea covers about 400 square miles. The Dead Sea lies about 1,300 feet below the level of the Mediterranean Sea, in a deep rift valley, formed between parallel faults or cracks in the Earth's crust.
The River Jord'an flows into the Dead Sea, but the sea has no outlet. The hot sun causes a high rate of evaporation and the water level does not vary much. Large amounts of salt in the sea make it the saltiest sea in the world. People can float easily on its surface, but few plants and no fish can live in its salty water.
